Born to Adapt is a project of the Mendocino Movement Project, which is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization run by the Born to Adapt co-founders, Zachary Friedley and Meagan Demitz.

You can see B2A’s “People” page here, which introduces B2A’s founder, Zachary Friedley, as well as the 2025 Board of Directors, which is run by B2A co-founder Meagan Dimitz.
For the first 5 years, Born to Adapt was run by its co-founders and a small group of advisors—our initial Board of Directors—who helped us find our footing. In 2025, as Born to Adapt expanded its operations globally, we refreshed and expanded our Board of Directors, who you can get to know on our People page.
If you are interested in joining our Board of Directors, reach out to B2A Board President, Meagan Dimitz. There are also plenty of ways to volunteer, as you can see below.

Our Born to Adapt Ambassadors are athletes, community builders, and people who are passionate about social justice and creating inclusive spaces for the disabled community.
Each year, we plan to open up applications for our Born to Adapt Ambassadors, who will help spread B2A’s message and mission across boundaries and borders of identification, employment, and geography. Get to know our 2025 Ambassadors on our People page, as well as our “Voices of Change” blog, which will feature them throughout the year.
These are people who actively and consistently embody the mission, values, and spirit of B2A in their field, work, and/or life.

The races and outdoor adventures are designed for disabled people. However, if you’d like to support us and be part of our community, we welcome volunteers who are interested in supporting our events in other ways. Click here to apply to volunteer.

You’ll notice that B2A has two primary types of programs: events and races.
A Born to Adapt event—for example, our Born to Adapt event in New Zealand in February 2026—is open to any and everyone. These events are created for the disabled community, but we highly encourage everyone to join us for those events, as they are meant to bring folks together to support the disabled community.
A Born to Adapt-friendly race—like Broken Arrow 18K or Mammoth Trail Fest—is usually for an adaptive athlete. These are well-known, established races that have, in partnership with B2A, opened a category for adaptive athletes for their races. This usually means that the race and Race Director have reserved a specific number of race entries for adaptive athletes specifically, as often times, a lot of races can fill up fast and be not inclusive to our disabled community.

All donations go toward supporting our organization’s annual operations. Individual and recurring donations do not go toward our sponsored adaptive athletes, as those sponsorships are drive by brand partners and sponsors. Your donations helps us host events around the world, and also helps us provide travel stipends to adaptive athletes in need.
help deepen our work.
You can make a direct impact today by donating $1, $20, or $500. Where does your gift go? We use donation funds to support Born to Adapt athletes with travel (flights), accommodations to events, outdoor gear (tents, shoes, sleeping bags, etc), and support event costs (permits, insurance, event space, official timing). We also ensure that participants have prizes and food at each event.
With your help, our vision is to scale so we can put on events more often and in more locations globally. Your help also ensures that future Born to Adapt athletes have no financial barriers to attending our events.
